These magic lantern slides evoke the visual culture of the Enlightenment when ideals of science and reason manifested a system of categorising nature and separating life forms in a hierarchical structure. We now understand that all animals (including humans), plants and other organisms, such as fungi and algae, are Eukaryotes and share a common ancestor. My reworking of the slides uses the cyanotype process to reference the taxonomic work of Anna Atkins. By accentuating the effects of time on the images, hidden forms become visible, suggesting interpenetrative systems that impact between or among all living things.
